DOCG. One of the most well known and treasured wines in the world, Brunello di Montalicino is a red wine of extraordinary elegance and concentration obtained from a long aging process. It has a full and ethereal fragrance with hints of wild berries, black cherry and vanilla.
This DOCG wine is produced from pure Sangiovese grapes. Harvest begins in mid September and lasts through mid October. The grapes are destemmed and pressed, then the fermentation process takes place. Contact between the grape skins and must lasts for about 20 days.
The wine is then stored in tanks in temperature controlled rooms to support the malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 36 months in part Slovanian oak barrels and part in French oak barriques. It then ages in the bottle for a minimum of 6 months before being introduced to the market.
Wine Spectator - 92 points
Bright and bursting with cherry and raspberry flavors, this picks up floral accents as it builds on the palate. Fresh and pure, with tobacco and briar notes emerging on the finish. Best from 2016 through 2028. - B.S.
